The Classic Opel Manta SR
Opel Manta SR 1900 (Sport Rallye)
The Beauty!
In all its majestic glory.

The Opel Manta SR was acquired in '75 and had gone through a forth engine overhaul and another spray-painting job. This classic SR is in daily use as would any other normal family car, however I usually would drive the classic BMW 7-Series for travelling long distances - more comfortable for old-bones.

I held the view that major changes and modification is not to be carried out on any classic/vintage automobile. As such, my Opel Manta SR is being kept as close to its original state/specification as possible.

Update: 7th July, 2007
I have finally retired gracefully since 2006, having worked as a Palm Oil Mill Engineer/Manager after my first retirement back in 2004 from Tenaga Nasional Berhad (Power Utility Corporation).

Now that my son, Peter Looi aka Bravolooi (he practically grew up in the Opel Manta SR) shows a very keen interest in this classic beauty - I had handed over the "ownership" to him.

Maintaining such a rare classic car (in Malaysia at least) is not an easy task. There is the difficulties of sourcing replacement parts, genuine or otherwise. In most situation, replacements were self-fabricated/modified and/or adapted from other automobiles. Please refer to my modification pages.

In view of the above reasons, assistance and guidance is given to my son. He indeed loves the classic SR as much as I do and he works (physically) hard to sort out any problem that occurs. I do not own a workshop but I do have ample tools in my collection. Most of the modification/adaptation were done at home and major jobs were done at friendly workshop owned by a automobile foreman that is a close buddy way back in the '60s. He offered brawn with experience and I contributed brain with ingenuity, so to say. With this association, it has helped to keep this beauty purring on the road till this day.

A lot of works has been done on this classic SR and had not been documented in these web pages. They will be added as I sieve through all the receipts and notes. Do drop by frequently for any new additions or you may email us at the following email addresses:

Ps. Now with the availability of digial camera, it made it so much more convenient to record any modifications, and/or repairs in digital images. Previously one has to get the film processed and photos printed - then comes the scanning (early scanners were hopeless and the professional scanners were much too expensive to own. As of now, I own three digital cameras and a HP ScanJet 6300c. The digital cameras are a Canon Ixus 300, Nikon Coolpix 800 and a Nikon D70s. For film cameras, I have the Minox 35ML and 35XL, another the Olympus.

Let's get back on topic and do enjoy this Loving Opel Manta SR Classic.

Gosh! What had I done!?

The scarcity, near to impossible, to source many of the spare components in order to maintain this classic as close to an original as possible. As such, through the years, I had resorted to some minor modifications here and there, as shall be displayed and briefly mentioned in separate pages.

Let me show
What had I done?
